About TankWise
Ask the internet "how many neon tetras can I put in a 10-gallon tank?" and you'll get 6, 8, and 10 — from sites that never explain their numbers. Beginners deserve better than a lottery.
What we do
TankWise is an educational website for first-time freshwater fishkeepers. We publish a small number of things and try to do them properly: a stocking calculator with a published method, complete stocking plans that have been through that method, and beginner guides written in plain language.
How we work
- One method, everywhere. The species data in our articles is the same data our calculator uses. If two pages ever disagree, that's a bug — tell us.
- Conservative by design. Where published care ranges differ, we choose the option that's safer for the fish. A lightly stocked tank forgives beginner mistakes; an overstocked one punishes them.
- No invented authority. We're a website, not a veterinary practice. Our figures are drawn from widely published care ranges for common species, and we say so. For a sick fish, an aquatic veterinarian or an experienced local fish store beats any website — including this one.
- Corrections welcome. Fishkeeping knowledge moves. If you spot an error, contact us with a source and we'll fix it and note the change.
How the site is funded
TankWise is supported by advertising. Ads never influence our stocking numbers or recommendations — the method is published, and it's the same method whether a page carries ads or not. See our privacy policy for how data is handled.
